Our catch and release guidelines

At Lough Neagh Anglers Club, we pride ourselves on our commitment to preserving the beauty and biodiversity of Lough Neagh for generations to come. Our catch and release guidelines are at the heart of this commitment, ensuring responsible angling practices and the sustainability of our precious fish stocks.

Frequently asked questions about catch and release

It all began with a simple idea fuelled by a deep passion for angling and conservation. As a club, we pride ourselves on personal attention and dedication to every detail when it comes to protecting Lough Neagh. Our approach is rooted in quality and integrity, ensuring that everything we do reflects our commitment to excellence in fly fishing and environmental stewardship.

Why is catch and release so important for Lough Neagh Anglers Club?

We are just custodians of the Lough for future generations to enjoy as we today enjoy. Catch and release is vital in the quest to preserve fish stocks.

Are there any specific tools or bits of kit that you recommend for successful catch and release?

Barbless hooks or debarbed hooks are a good option and a good pair of forceps.

What are the key things anglers need to do to make sure they're handling fish safely when doing catch and release?

Try to keep handling to a minimum and the fish in the net in the water if possible. Wet hands before handling. Take pictures as quick as possible. When releasing, make sure the fish is fully recovered.

How does following these catch and release guidelines help new, younger anglers learn about fishing responsibly?

Teaching the youth anglers from an early age the advantages of catch and release is good practice, as a lot of international matches and small fisheries demand it.
